Motivation Monday

"War on Waste"

I think I am little late to the party 🙈 but recently we have been watching the War on Waste Series on ABC and it has been a complete game changer for my family 🙌🏼

I thought I was doing my part by just sorting out our general household recyclables and am embarrassed that I had turned a blind eye to what was happening around us and everything else I could be doing…better late than never, Ive just got some making up to do!

💭 Think about this…Plastic can take hundreds and hundreds of years to break down so every piece of plastic you have ever put in the rubbish bin probably still exists! Not only this but as it decomposes it leaches harmful gases including Methane into the environment!

Due to watching the show, not only has our grocery shopping experience changed but we have made daily commitments to join the War on Waste. We are only just scrapping the surface but so far here are a couple of things we have implemented already that really take no effort at all:

🙅🏻‍♀️ Saying no to straws. I had no idea that straws (along with other rubbish) was such an issue in our waterways and to our marine life!
🙅🏻‍♀️ Not purchasing bottled water and where possible really assessing when we need to purchased bottled drinks at all. I’ve had a rest from making my kombucha but Im starting back at it to avoid having to buy it in bottles…helping the environment and my hip pocket!
💁🏻‍♀️ Trying to remember to take reusable bags/cardboard boxes for our grocery shop.
🙅🏻‍♀️ Choosing fruit and veg not wrapped in packaging and not using the plastic bags. This one really astounds me…particularly at Aldi! For things like beans etc Ive started using the paper mushroom bags.
💁🏻‍♀️ Picking up rubbish that we see laying around...it’s amazing when you start to do this how much rubbish there actually is that’s just left.

This is just the very start – the list of steps that we can take are endless and something that we can all do! I realise that many of you might already be doing this and possibly a lot more but looking around the shopping trolleys in the supermarket there are many people that, just like I was, aren’t aware.

Health is not only about what you put into your body and how you treat it but it is also about the the environment that we live in, so my little motivation for your Monday is please, if you haven’t already sit down with the family and watch this series!
